Sagmosavank Monastery is a historic 8th-century Armenian monastery located above a gorge on the Kasakh River. Amberd Fortress, according to historians, was built from the 7th to the 10th centuries AD. The castle and part of the fortress walls were constructed in the 7th century by the princely Kamsarakan family. Later, in the 10th century, Amberd Fortress came under the ownership of one of the most powerful princely families, the Pahlavuni. It served as the summer residence of Armenian princes.
