We invite guests of Armenia to excursions to Lake Sevan. With great pleasure, we introduce tourists from Russia and other countries to this jewel of Armenian land, reveal the secrets of ancient monasteries on the shores, and show mysterious places that have preserved their beauty and history for centuries. Along the way, we recommend the best restaurants with local cuisine and give you the chance to meet the warm and hospitable people of the region.

Lake Sevan and Its Unique Features

Lake Sevan, located at an altitude of almost 1900 meters above sea level, is one of the largest and highest freshwater lakes in the world. Its surface covers about 1240 km², with an average depth of 26.8 meters and spots reaching 80 meters. Sevan is the largest reservoir of fresh water in the Caucasus and a true symbol of Armenia’s natural wealth and beauty.

From the shores of the lake, breathtaking views open up to mountain ranges, meadows, oak groves, and forests reflected in its crystal-clear waters, where the bottom is visible even at a depth of 4.5 meters. On one of the islands stands the ancient Sevanavank Monastery, founded in the 9th century, while other medieval monasteries such as Ayrivank and Vanevan rise along the shores. Near the village of Noratus lies the largest khachkar cemetery, with more than 900 unique cross-stones, each telling its own story.

Lake Sevan is also famous for its fish, including the endemic Sevan trout, barbel, and temple fish, as well as catfish, whitefish, and crucian carp. The Sevan National Park protects this ecosystem, with its reserves and sanctuaries serving as home to rare birds such as the Armenian gull, whooper swan, red-crested pochard, ferruginous duck, and black-headed gull.

The shores of Sevan are lined with hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants offering excellent cuisine, as well as both private and public beaches that make the area attractive to travelers year-round.
