Interesting Facts about Tsaghkadzor

Tsaghkadzor is an ancient settlement, inhabited since the early Middle Ages. Until the 11th century, it was called Kecharis (“birch grove”), after which a monastery of the same name was founded. In the 17th century, the area and monastery were conquered by the Turks, and from 1828, Tsaghkadzor became part of the Erivan district under the Russian Empire.

The ski resort in Tsaghkadzor was founded in the mid-20th century, with slopes on Mount Teghenis—50 trails totaling over 10 km. Skiers and snowboarders reach the slopes via lifts, with a cable car nearly 5 km long and a top elevation of 2,500 meters. Full ski equipment is available for rent.

Tsaghkadzor has numerous hotels ranging from budget rooms to luxury apartments. Local cafes and restaurants offer a wide variety of dishes made from local products at reasonable prices.
